April 2010
The planting of this year’s Jersey Royal crop is nearing completion, after starting early in January, and thankfully conditions have been favourable.
Despite the 2010 crop being planted slightly earlier than last year’s, progress has been very slow due to the exceptionally cold winter.
The early glasshouse crop has been trickling into the Mainland for several weeks as a taster for the main event.
The outdoor crop grown on the steep South facing slopes or ‘Côtils’ will be hand harvested in the coming weeks, which will be approximately 10 days later than last season, when spring arrived earlier.
It is envisaged that the build up of the crop to follow will be slightly delayed, but we are sure the wait will be worthwhile.
